Frequently Asked Questions

1How long can I keep the skip bin?
Our standard hire period is up to 7 days. If you need more time, contact our teamcontact our team, and we may be able to extend the hire, subject to availability (additional fees apply). If you’re finished sooner, early collection is available, but the hire cost will remain the same.
2What items can’t be thrown in the skip?
There are some items we are unable to collect, including gas bottles, liquids, food waste, chemicals, paint, oils, needles or syringes and tyres. For a full list of items we can’t accept, see our contact our teamterms and conditions or contact our teamcontact our team.
3Are tipping fees included in the pricing?
Yes. Each skip hire has a weight allowance, which includes tipping fees. If the weight limit exceeds the allowance, additional charges may apply. Concrete and soil-only skip bins have no weight limit, as these items are recyclable and have minimal tipping fees.

5Can I use the skip for green waste?
Yes. If you’ve cleaned up the garden and have excess green waste, a skip bin is a great way to dispose of it. Once collected, green waste is taken to a disposal facility, where it is processed into mulch and compost.
6Do you offer same-day delivery?
Yes, we offer same-day delivery, subject to availability. For same-day delivery options, contact our teamcontact our office during business hours to confirm. If it is not available, we guarantee next-day delivery on all bookings which can be made online or by calling us directly.
7Can the skip go on the road or the nature strip?
Yes, skip bins can be placed on the road or nature strip, but permits are generally required for safety. Permit costs vary depending on the Council, the location of the bin, and the permit duration. Permits can be arranged on your behalf as part of your booking and will incur an additional fee.
8Can I put concrete and rubbish in the skip?
Yes, but it’s not recommended. As concrete is recyclable, a concrete-only skip can be disposed of and repurposed in a more environmentally friendly way. If the skip contains a mix of concrete and other materials, the entire skip will go to the landfill, and may incur additional costs due to its weight. For concrete disposal, a href="https://g-townskips.com.au/contact/" target="_self">contact our teamcontact our team to discuss the best option.
9When do I need to pay for the skip?
Skip bin payment is required on or before the day of delivery. We accept a variety of payment methods, including card payments (EFTPOS) and bank transfer (EFT).
10Can I throw away my old mattress?
Mattresses can be disposed of for an extra charge. If you’re planning to dispose of a mattress, please discuss with our team before booking or before the skip is collected. Mattresses should be placed on top of the skip once it's full. Please note that, for safety reasons, our drivers are unable to lift mattresses onto bins or trucks.
11What level can I fill the skip bin to?
At maximum, waste should be level with the top edge of the skip. This ensures the skip can be transported safely and complies with road safety regulations.
12Is it cheaper if we don’t fill the skip?
No, skip hire and disposal pricing is based on the bin size, not how much is used.
13 Do you recycle the waste?
Yes, we do our best to recycle as much as possible and reduce landfill waste. We also offer discounted rates for sorted single-item loads that can be recycled, like soil, bricks, concrete, and green waste.
14 Will the skip bin damage my driveway?
It’s unlikely, as the skips are carefully placed and removed, using the truck's hydraulic crane system. For added protection, we recommend placing sturdy timber, plywood or carpet under the bin.
15 Can you drop off and pick up the skip on the same day?
We can typically accommodate same-day drop off and collection for pre-booked skip bin hires. If you require a same-day drop-off and pick-up, we recommend booking this as early as possible to ensure availability.
16Do I need to be home when my skip bin is delivered?
No, you don’t need to be home. Skip delivery can be arranged with clear instructions on placement. Skips can be placed on your driveway or within your property line, or, with Council permission, on the nature strip or road (additional permit fees may apply depending on the council).
17What items can’t go in green waste bins?
Only organic waste, such as grass clippings, branches, woodchips, bark, and plant trimmings, should be put in green waste bins. Any other waste type, like soil, concrete, general, or hazardous waste, should not be disposed of within the same bin. If you are disposing of mixed green waste, contact our teamcontact our team, and we can help you choose the right bin.
18What size skip bin do I need for garden waste?
The size skip needed will depend on the amount of garden waste. If you’re disposing of a smaller amount of waste, a 2m³ bin will usually suffice; for a medium amount, a 6m³ bin; and for a larger amount, an 8–20m³ bin.
